LMS Discrimination: Housing discrimination

Housing Discrimination

"The Fair Housing Act expanded on the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

It banned people from refusing to rent or sell to anyone solely

based on race. It outlawed racial discrimination in real estate

terms and conditions, as well as in advertising. Real estate

agents were prohibited from commenting about the race of

neighbors or potential property buyers in order to promote

panic selling. In essence, says Massey, the Fair Housing Act

“expressly banned many of the public actions and private

practices that had evolved over the years to deny blacks access to housing" (Parks 39).
