Level 1 - Natural Language keywords

These are the words that match the way you speak or write.

Level 2 - Academic Language keywords

These are the vocabulary words, terms and phrases that you learned in class.

Level 3 - Specific Language keywords

These are keywords that are specific to a database or a narrow field of study.

Tips for getting the most out of your keywords.

  • You want a good mix of the three levels of keywords.
  • Your list of keywords should grow and change as you search.
  • Try your keywords out in different databases.
